So you want to be a Carriage Driver?
"That looks like such a FUN JOB!"
We get asked every weekend how we became carriage
drivers. We all have different answers, but it's usually
the love of horses combined with the desire to show off our
beautiful Fort Worth that keeps us coming back every weekend.
Yes, most of the time our job is as fun as it
gets. Clients who are proposing, getting married or
on a first date. Santa Clauses and tree lightings, birthday parties and
anniversaries.
Daddy-Daughter Dances, Cinderella Parties and Costumed Balls. Our Drivers
see themselves
in local papers, are interviewed by international news agencies, turn up in
music videos,
on the local "Weather Spot" and in major advertisements.
We've been in every Stock Show Parade for 16 years, so yes, it's FUN!
As a horseperson, you will encounter every
challenge. There aren't many opportunities to maneuver a horse
through the portico of a 4-Star Hotel no matter what kind of equestrian you
are! If you like taking Horsemanship
to the next level, you will like commercial driving. Carriage Driving is
now an Gold Medal International Event,
there are lots of open competitive Driving activities in the area as well.
The HARD PART is reporting for work when
conditions are not as FUN! Rain and cold in the winter, heat and
dirt
in the summer. Lots of horse baths, late nights, city buses, aching backs
and "Do you have any Grey Poupon?" comments from
the street. Holidays mean GREAT INCOME, but plan on working Christmas, New
Year's and Valentine's Day.
Driving a Carriage is a very serious and
dangerous occupation. You are responsible for your own and your horse's
safety plus
the safety of your passengers and pedestrians. Traffic is very heavy at
times downtown. We need EXCELLENT drivers behind
the "wheel", we are the ULTIMATE in DEFENSIVE driving. We don't
have the luxury of having even one accident!
Lots of street action means lots of concentration while at the same time
attending to our clients.
We are EXTREMELY FORTUNATE to have Sundance
Square as the home-base for our carriage company. It is
one of the premier downtown re-developments in the world. What this means
is that our client service bar is much higher
than most other businesses, we are committed to Sundance and their first-class
vision of Downtown Fort Worth.

Fort Worth Commercial Carriage Driver
Mostly Weekends
7p - Midnight (depends on season)
Drivers normally earn $10-$20 per hour plus tips
We require:
Extensive Driving or English (on the bit) riding
experience, can train from some Western riding disciplines
Reliable transportation, prefer truck for occasional jobs on location
Physical ability to perform all aspects of position
Ability to perform Driving Services as a Sub-Contractor
Employment references
City of FW requires for Driving License:
Minimum 21 years of age
Defensive Driving in the last one year
Physical including Drug/Alcohol Screening
Driving Record Check
